Coalville Public Radio (CPR) Our Story
At CPR, we’re more than just a radio station—we’re a vibrant hub for local stories, music, news, and events, bringing our community together through the power of broadcasting. Our mission is simple: to amplify local voices, celebrate cultural diversity, and create meaningful connections throughout North West Leicestershire.
CPR proudly launched during the North West District Council’s Christmas event on Saturday, 23 November 2024. This milestone marked the realisation of a long-held dream, made possible through the support of the SPF UK Grant and our partnership with Coalville CAN (Communities and Neighbours), an organisation that embodies the values of inclusivity, empowerment, and community-led change.
In September 2024, CPR was born from the vision of a dedicated group who brought together 14 former presenters of Hermitage FM to create a new venture. With their collective experience and a shared belief in the power of community radio, they laid the foundation for what has become a professional online radio station. Supported by guidance from the community radio family, who share a commitment to uplifting their communities, CPR is now working towards transitioning to FM broadcasting, opening new opportunities to represent and engage with our listeners.
We’re proud to embrace future technology, powered by Myriad, which allows us to connect with the community like never before. Whether from the studio, at home, on the road, or through the innovative use of rodent electronics, we can broadcast live wherever we are. This cutting-edge setup ensures that CPR remains flexible, interactive, and ready to grow stronger with each new version of our platform.
Our launch day was a testament to resilience and community spirit. Despite the challenges of a storm, 12 presentershosted live segments both on-site and in the studio. The day began at 10 am, with the studio buzzing with energy, starting with Slade’s "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day"—followed by a heartfelt introduction and a song from Belle, a supporter of CPR, showcasing the industry’s early backing of our mission.
We owe a huge thanks to The Healy Group, whose sponsorship of the Christmas light switch-on event allowed us to distribute over 250 selection boxes and prizes, spreading joy to local families. Additionally, Lynx Custom Cablesensures our audio quality remains top-notch, while Coalville Pet Supplies, our first-ever advertiser, believed in us from the very start. Their support helped lay the groundwork for CPR’s success.
But CPR isn’t just about the past—it’s about the present and future. As a non-profit, volunteer-run community project, CPR thrives on the energy, creativity, and collaboration of people like you. Whether you’re tuning in for the latest hits, enjoying the banter of our presenters, or staying updated on local events, there’s something for everyone here. And don’t forget TU Can, our fun and feathered mascot, spreading positivity and reminding us all: “If TU Can, you can too!”
We invite you to join us in shaping the future of CPR. Whether you’re a business looking to advertise, a listener wanting to volunteer, or someone passionate about supporting local initiatives, your involvement makes all the difference. Together, we can make CPR not just a station, but a thriving community hub—a beacon of connection and inspiration for North West Leicestershire.
So, tune in, get involved, and be part of our growing family. At CPR, we believe in the power of local voices, because when we come together, we create something truly extraordinary. Let’s build something amazing—together.
