Coalville Public Radio (CPR) Our Story
At CPR, we’re more than just a radio station—we’re a vibrant hub for local stories, music, news, and events, bringing our community together through the power of broadcasting. Our mission is simple: to amplify local voices, celebrate cultural diversity, stop social isolation, and create meaningful connections throughout North West Leicestershire.
CPR proudly launched during the North West District Council’s Christmas event on Saturday, 23 November 2024.This milestone marked the realisation of a long-held dream, made possible through the support of the SPF UK Grant and our partnership with Coalville CAN (Communities and Neighbours)—an organisation that embodies the values of inclusivity, empowerment, and community-led change.
In September 2024, CPR was born from the vision of a dedicated group who brought together 14 former presenters of Hermitage FM to create a new venture. With their collective experience and belief in community radio, they laid the foundation for what has become a professional online radio station. Supported by guidance from the wider community radio family, CPR is now working towards transitioning to FM and DAB broadcasting, opening new opportunities to represent and engage with our listeners.
We’re proud to embrace future technology, powered by Myriad, which allows us to connect with the community like never before. Whether from the studio, at home, on the road, or through the innovative use of Rodent Electronics, we can broadcast live from anywhere. This ensures that CPR remains flexible, interactive, and ready to grow stronger with every version of our platform.
Our launch day was a testament to community spirit and resilience. Despite stormy weather, 12 presenters hosted live segments on-site and in the studio. The broadcast kicked off at 10am with Slade’s "I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day", followed by a heartfelt intro and a song by Belle, a CPR supporter—showcasing the early backing of our mission by those in the industry.
We owe a huge thanks to:
- The Healy Group, whose sponsorship of the Christmas light switch-on helped us distribute over 250 selection boxes and prizes to local families.
- Lynx Custom Cables, who ensure our audio quality stays top-notch. We're proud users of Custom Lynx cables made right here in Coalville, and having their support shows we’re doing the right thing for our community.
- Coalville Pet Supplies, our first-ever advertiser, whose early belief in us helped lay the groundwork for CPR’s success.
- East Midlands Airport, whose generous £2,000 grant enabled us to purchase an outside broadcast speaker, helping us take CPR's sound into the community.
But CPR isn’t just about the past—it’s about the present and future. As a non-profit, volunteer-run community project, CPR thrives on the energy, creativity, and collaboration of people like you. Whether you’re:
- tuning in for the latest hits
- enjoying our presenters’ banter
- staying connected to your community
- or finding a voice in a world that can feel isolating
—there’s something for everyone here.
CPR exists to bring people together and help stop social isolation, one conversation, one laugh, and one song at a time.
And don’t forget TU Can, our fun and feathered mascot, who spreads positivity with the reminder:
“If TU Can, you can too!”
