Nick Davies
Music has been part of Nick’s life for as long as he can remember. From an early age he was playing his parents’ record collection on a second-hand record player, discovering rock and roll and classic crooners from a box of old 78s. There was always a tune in his head and a constant need to hear more, even persuading his mum to buy a pair of shoes because they came with a free copy of Don’t Go Breaking My Heart by Elton John and Kiki Dee.
Nick’s love of radio began in the early 1980s when he and a school friend started DJing at home on two turntables, pretending they were on air. That spark never left him. At the time his tastes leaned more towards metal, with bands like Iron Maiden and AC DC, but his musical journey was far from over.
Living in Kent introduced Nick to pirate radio, with stations such as Radio Caroline and Laser 558 playing freely from the North Sea. He loved the idea of free radio and DJs choosing music straight from their record boxes. Later, while working in London, he discovered stations like Kiss and JFM and found himself drawn to soul and disco. It was a turning point that shaped the sound he wanted to share.
Nick now brings that wide musical background to his show, Crazeology. It is not a traditional jazz show, but one that plays across the spectrum. Each week features new releases alongside older tracks, with music that sits just off the edge and pushes boundaries. It is all about sharing great music and keeping things interesting.
